When Pope Francis visits Philadelphia later this month, the city, or at least the central business district known as Center City, will be dramatically affected in many ways, including “frozen zones” where traffic will not be permitted. The Pope’s visit will also affect the Third Circuit, as that court announced yesterday. The Third Circuit Clerk’s Office will close on September 24 and will not reopen until September 29. Electronic filing will still be available during that time. Case opening documents due on September 24, 25, or 28 will be considered timely if received by September 29. Papers due in any matter on September 24, 25, or 28 will now be due on September 30, October 1, and October 2, respectively.
The notice did not address the filing of emergency motions. Information as to that subject will be posted at a later date.
