It is a pleasure to announce here what is also being announced elsewhere: as of January 1, 2021, my firm, Lite DePalma Greenberg, LLC will become Lite DePalma Greenberg & Afanador, LLC. Our partner, Victor A. Afanador, will thus become a name partner of the firm.
Victor joined the firm as an associate in 2001. He became a partner in 2008. A gifted trial lawyer, Victor has tried a number of cases to jury verdicts in state and federal court. His civil litigation practice spans the defense of public entities, including a number of New Jersey’s biggest cities, employment cases, and constitutional and civil rights litigation. A former Public Defender, Victor also handles criminal defense and white-collar criminal investigations. Additionally, he provides counseling and handles litigation in the burgeoning area of cannabis law.
Since this is an appellate law blog, Victor’s significant appellate experience cannot go unmentioned. He has argued appeals in the Supreme Court of New Jersey, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Appellate Division. Victor is also the only attorney at our firm to appear before the Supreme Court of the United States. He was at counsel table for the oral argument in Heffernan v. City of Paterson, 578 U.S. ___, 136 S.Ct. 1412 (2016), a case that he argued and won at the Third Circuit.
A long-time active member of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, Victor currently serves as Second Vice-President of that organization. He is on the ladder to become President of the Association in several years. Among his other pro bono activities, Victor has been extensively involved in the District of New Jersey’s Reentry Court, a program for certain individuals on post-conviction supervision that employs a combination of treatment, education, job training, and other modalities to aid participants in reentering the community.
Victor has a stellar reputation among the bench and bar in both state and federal court. That reputation is well-deserved. Our firm is fortunate to have him, and proud that he will become a name partner as the new year begins.
