Justice Solomon Gets Tenure

Yesterday, the Senate voted 37-0 to give life tenure, until age 70, to Justice Solomon. He will reach that mandatory retirement age in 2024.

After Governor Murphy, a Democrat, nominated Justice Solomon, a Republican, for tenure on the Court, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously advanced that nomination on May 13. Yesterday’s vote of the full Senate was the final step in the tenure process.

This was an uncontroversial nomination, as it should have been. Justice Solomon has served well during the seven years that he has sat on the Court. The bipartisan process that has largely prevailed since 1948, by custom, in order to produce excellent Justices regardless of party affiliation, was followed and worked well. Congratulations, Justice Solomon!
